Chicago Fishes Event: Come Join Us
How do you know a river is healthy? Count the fish...
The Chicago River has seen tremendous strides in the quality and quantity of fish. Today, there are more than 70 species have been identified in the system.
You can take a closer look by joining us October 19 on the Chicago Riverwalk for the annual Chicago Fishes event. Folks will be able to grab a pole and try their hand at fishing.
Our co-hosts are the Metropolitan Planning Council, the Chicago Park District, the Environmental Law & Policy Center, the Shedd Aquarium, the Illinois Environmental Council, and others. We will celebrate recent improvements to the river and learn more about the fish that call it home.
There is no charge to attend, but registrations in advance are encouraged. A limited number of poles and free bait will be provided.
If you would like to donate, please visit our GoFundMe campaign. All donations will go toward supplies for the event. Fishing poles purchased for the event will be donated to support youth fishing programs in Chicago.
Last year's poles helped over 1,500 kids experience fishing in Chicago last year through various Chicago Park District programs.
