New Osprey Nest Goes Up at the Botanic Garden

There is plentiful food in the lagoons and the protected gardens and forests provide protection from too much disturbance for potentially nesting pairs.  A 2011 Chicago Tribune story quoted Field Museum ornithologist Doug Stotz as saying osprey disappeared from Illinois in 1952. Fortunately with the improved health of our lakes and rivers and no more DDT, ospreys are making a comeback, and these nests will help them do it. Check out the Botanic Garden's blog.
